These worktops are true laminate.  They come with edge strips to complete the front edges and any exposed edges at the end of a run.

The length of these tops varies, but is a maximum of 12" (30 cms).  The cost is per 6" (15 cms) or fraction of 6".  You can of course join sections together to make longer lengths.  If you need a total of 16" then you should order 3 lengths.  This will give you 18" of laminate, but this may then be in two pieces, say one of 10" and another 8", according to your plan.  When you order your units, please send us a copy of your plan so that we can ensure you receive the correct pieces.  The cost also includes the pre-cut hole for the sink according to your own plan.  Remember that you can use two different surfaces if you wish; for instance, you may use aluminium in the cooking area and black granite elsewhere. Or wood in the sink area (wood tops are listed separately) and green laminate elsewhere.
